We’re home! Back in the UK and just a few hundred metres from our operational base at Silverstone for Round 8 of the 14-event FIA Formula 2 calendar, taking place from 5-7 July.
It’s the third event of the frenetic Barcelona-Austria-Silverstone triple-header, so coupled with the excitement of racing in front of our home crowd, the team are running on pure adrenaline.
We’re now embarking on the second half of the season and the competition is really hotting up as the championship battles take on a new intensity with two titles at stake.
Our drivers Paul Aron and Amaury Cordeel met that challenge head-on last time out in Austria. The Estonian driver secured his seventh consecutive podium finish in as many races in the Sprint, while the duo finished 5th and 7th respectively in the Feature Race, Paul racking up his ninth consecutive points finish.
Paul Aron heads to Silverstone still leading the drivers’ standings, with 117 points and an eleven-point margin over his closest rival, Hitech alumnus Isack Hadjar.
Hitech continues to fight for the lead in the teams’ standings and is just one point shy of the top of the leaderboard.
Silverstone is always a firm favourite for many on the grid. Its high-speed nature means it demands plenty from the cars, in terms of setup and tyre management. The downforce requirement is high due to the combination of the long DRS zones and the sweeping nature of the circuit which puts an emphasis on the right balance going through the corners. The focus on heavy braking is saved only for Turns 3 and the Vale Chicane which demand sudden deceleration.
The same Pirelli Soft and Hard tyres last seen in Barcelona will be used here as it is one of the hardest tracks on the tyres.
