Preview – F2 Round 6 – Barcelona

It’s back to Barcelona this week, where the F2 teams conducted three days of early season testing in late April.

Round 6 of the FIA Formula 2 championship (21-23 June) comes a whole month since Hitech’s successful last outing in Monaco, where Paul Aron propelled himself to P1 in the drivers’ standings. Together with Amaury Cordeel, both drivers and the team have been hard at work in the intervening weeks to ensure we can continue the current momentum of consistent podiums and points, and hopefully secure the season’s first win.

Hitech GP are currently second in the teams’ standings, just nine points adrift of the championship lead, a gap they’ll be looking to close as the season nears its mid-point.

Among the factors the teams and the drivers will be taking into consideration this weekend – downforce levels. The long main straight contrasts with plenty of tighter, twisty sections, some of which are fast-paced. So teams tend to choose between a medium to high downforce setup.

Tyre management will be key given the strain the high-speed corners will place on the tyres. Pirelli will bring to the teams the same set of white-painted Hard tyres and the red-walled Softs that they ran during in-season testing in Barcelona in April and last year’s race weekend.
