The Williams Racing Academy Driver, who spearheaded Hitech’s 2024 Formula 3 title challenge, graduated to F2 for the final three rounds in Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
The 20-year-old Briton took the transition in his stride at the Baku City Circuit, and Williams Racing promptly announced his competitive Formula 1 debut in Free Practice 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and in F1’s end-of-season Young Driver Test this week at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Luke’s impressive 2024 season in the Formula 3 Championship was his third campaign with Hitech. He joined the team in 2022, a year after winning the F4 British Championship, and made an auspicious start to what would become a highly successful union. In their first season together, Luke swept the board in GB3 Championship, securing the Drivers’ title with five wins and a further eight podiums.
In 2023, Luke graduated to the FIA Formula 3 Championship for the first of two seasons in the series. That same year he achieved an utterly dominant victory in the Macau Grand Prix.
With a debut Formula 3 season under his belt, Luke impressed from the outset of his 2024 campaign with a win in the opening round at Sakhir that propelled him into an early Championship lead. Another victory would follow in Spielberg, together with a further Podium, two Pole Positions and a string of Points Finishes that kept the title fight firmly in his sights right up until the final race in Monza. Despite an incredibly hard-fought second half of the season, he narrowly missed out on the title and runner-up placing to finish third in the Drivers’ Standings on 128 points.
With the Formula 3 season having reached its conclusion, Luke stepped up to Formula 2 sooner than expected when he was given the opportunity to compete in the final three rounds of the 2024 season, earning points on his first race weekend by finishing the Feature Race in seventh position.
“I’m so happy that I’ll be racing in F2 with Hitech next season,” said Luke Browning. “I’ve been through every category of single-seater racing with this team and to be able to complete the ladder with them is incredibly important and special for me.”
“I would like to thank Oliver Oakes in particular for his support throughout the last three seasons. There is nothing I want more than to win the F2 Championship with this group of people around me, and that is our goal for 2025.”
Clive Hatton, Hitech GP’s F2 Team Manager, commented: “After three seasons with Hitech, Luke has worked closely with the team at every stage of his journey up the single-seater ladder. We’re extremely proud of his progression to F2, and to see him get his competitive F1 debut last week in Abu Dhabi.
“With Luke getting the opportunity to step up to Formula 2 for the final three rounds of the current season, coupled with the experience he has gathered from his Formula 1 Free Practice, and the Young Driver Test this week, we couldn’t have wished for better preparation for his 2025 campaign.
“Luke and Hitech share the same objective for 2025 – to win the Formula 2 Championship – and we have no doubt that he will be fighting for victories every step of the way.”
