Vips on podium in Sakhir in Formula 2 season opener

Jüri Vips got his 2022 Formula 2 season off to a solid start, securing a podium in Sakhir in the opening round of the season. The Estonian finished the Feature Race P3, gaining all-important points alongside teammate Armstrong who showed strong form to finish P5 in an impressive first weekend of the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Kicking off the weekend at Sakhir Circuit, the team took to the track for Qualifying. Red Bull junior Vips posted an outstanding lap to put him P3 (1:40.755), just 0.213 seconds off the pace. Armstrong marked the timesheets in P13 (1:41.354), in a result that determined the team’s grid positions for the weekend’s races. In Saturday’s Sprint Race, Vips finished P7 whilst Armstrong unfortunately had to retire from the race. Vips impressed in Sunday’s Feature Race, where he comfortably lead several laps, until an unfortunate slow pitstop demoted him down the order, to finish the race in P3. Armstrong showed excellent pace in the hour-long race to finish P5 overall and gaining points for the tally.

The team will return to the track this weekend at Saudi’s Jeddah Circuit on 25 -27 March in Round 2 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
