Hitech GP complete successful three-day pre-season F2 test at Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain
Red Bull juniors Liam Lawson and Juri Vips topped pre-season testing, taking P2 and P3 respectively in their final day of running’s, as the team prepare for their second season in Formula 2. The season opener is set to get underway in two weeks time as Hitech will make their return to the Bahraini circuit.
Red Bull Academy duo Lawson and Vips quickly got up to speed on the first day of testing, with the Kiwi posting a best lap of 1:43.621s to secure him P5 on the timesheets. Estonian racer Vips rocketed in a 1:44.079s, marking the timesheets in P8.
Day two of testing saw Lawson and Vips slot into the top-10, running just under 140 laps between them to take P5 and P7 respectively. Lawson secured best-lap of 1:42.256s, with Vips lighting up the timesheets just 0.043s behind him, with a best lap of 1:42.299s.
On the final morning of testing the duo did not waste any time, chucking on their last set of fresh Pirelli boots. Vips set the strongest of the first set of fast laps, posting a best-lap of 1:42.224. The Estonian was swiftly bettered by his teammate, the Kiwi going faster by a mere 0.006s. The duo took P2 and P3 on their final day of running’s in their best showing.
Lawson will join the British team in his Rookie season in Formula 2, with Vips joining Hitech in his second season, fresh off the back of his 2020 campaign which saw him contest several rounds in FIA F2, replacing injured Sean Gelael.
Hitech will return to the circuit in two weeks’ time for the F2 championship season opener at the Bahrain Grand Prix on 26-28 March.
