Starting his motorsport career at the age of seven years old, Nikita Mazepin is now regarded for his supreme talent behind the wheel and a genuine Formula One prospect. Following a successful career in karting as Vice World Champion, Mazepin made his step up to single-seaters, climbing the ranks of the motorsport ladder in no time. Several podium finishes in the MRF Challenge and Asia Cup Series underlined his potential, prompting a debut in the 2015 Toyota Racing Series and Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Championship.
In 2016, Mazepin embarked on his maiden season in the ultra-competitive FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Hitech GP. It was this same year that he was appointed as Sahara Force India F1 Development Driver and has since racked up a decent amount of F1 testing mileage, completing eight days with Force India between 2016 and 2018. He has also had chance to get behind the wheel of the 2017 Mercedes car.
The second half of the 2017 FIA F3 European season saw Mazepin secure two podiums, continuing this momentum into 2018 on his debut in the GP3 Series. Getting to grips with Pirelli tyres and new machinery, Mazepin clinched the runner-up crown, a true testament to his fighting spirit and tenacity. With his sights set firmly on the top spot – Formula One – Nikita stepped up to the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2019. He finished 18th in the standings, and is set to front a campaign in F2 with Hitech Grand Prix in 2020.
